During the herbalism course that I took, I’ve come across various deficiency issues that seem familiar. For example, liver deficiency is pretty common, and some symptoms would include coldness, dry skin, allergies, arthritis, painful menstrual cycles, asthma, eczema, and poor circulation.

Some changes that can be made to help with liver deficiency would be to eat more steamed vegetables and root vegetables (warming foods), increase the number of alkalizing foods, eat foods high in Vitamin A such as carrots, carrot juice, and dark green leafy vegetables; cut back on processed carbohydrates, sweet juicy fruits, and cold foods such as raw salads and smoothies; and eliminate refined sugar, alcohol, and fried, fatty or oily foods.

Drink plenty of fresh water each day. Experts say you should drink at least one-half your body weight in water daily. An example would be if you weigh 150 pounds, then you should drink 75 ounces daily.

Here is a liver deficiency tea recipe that you can make and drink daily:

2 parts Burdock root 3 parts Dandelion root 1 part Pau D’ Arco 2 parts roasted Dandelion root 1 part Cinnamon 2 parts Licorice root 1/2 part Yellow Dock root 1/4 part Echinacea root

This formula would need to be taken in 1 cup tea increments that has been decocted for about 20 minutes and taken 3 to 4 times per day.

Something else you can do is to make a tincture with herbs good for liver deficiency and take these daily. Suggested herbs would be Oregon Grape root, Barberry root, Yellow Dock root, Golden Seal root, and/or Chaparral and take 1/2 teaspoons of tincture 3 times a day.

If you do exhibit liver deficiencies, please seek advice from your medical professional since I am not a doctor, and discontinue taking if you have any allergic reactions. Also, this tea remedy is not FDA approved and I cannot make claims to its effectiveness. Since I do have liver deficiency symptoms, I’m making a batch of the above tea to have on hand.
