COMMON NAMES: Propolis, bee propolis, propolis wax, beeswax acid, bee glue, propolis balsam, propolis resin.

PART USED: Resin

PERTINENT INFORMATION: Propolis is not an herb, but often used by herbalists. Beekeepers gather the propolis from hive scrapings. Propolis is a combination of resin from various conifer or evergreen trees along with bee enzymes and beeswax. Bees use it to protect their hive against predators by sealing gaps in their hives and also encasing their enemies with it; and it also supports their immune system. The resin varies in color depending on the type of sap collected.

OUR PROPOLIS TINCTURE: The propolis comes straight from our beehives on our property. We manage our bees using organic methods, which means we do not treat our bees with chemicals and we do not feed artificial food such as sugar. We feed only honey and pollen. Since no chemicals or treatments are used in the hive, this propolis has not been tainted. We also do not use propolis traps, which causes the bees to work harder at sealing up their hives. We scrape from very select areas of the frames so that we do not take away their protection, thus leaving us very little propolis each year to make a limited batch of tincture.

SUGGESTED DOSAGE: For immune system maintenance is 15 drops, 1-3x/day. For sore throats, take a couple drops as needed. Shake well before using. Because this has a very strong alcohol content, it is recommended to dilute in water, juice, tea or any other beverage.
