Since I tried my hand at dehydrating tomatoes, I read that you can dehydrate cantaloupe also. Sounds kind of strange but I did it anyway.

Dehydrate at 130 degrees for approximately 18 hours (depending on how chewy or crisp you want them). I dried mine for the whole 18 hours and they were still on the chewy side but they were dry and storable. Make sure they are sliced no more than 1/4 inch thick.

You can store them with a moisture absorber if there is concern that there could be a little moisture remaining. I put mine in a zip lock bag because I knew that they would not last long as snacks anyway and I only dehydrated 1-1/2 melons.

I’m not sure I like the taste of them though. What I read said that they get sweeter when dried but I guess I’m not used to the taste of these without all the juice. Maybe that is why you don’t see them in the grocery stores as much as other dried fruit.

But, hey, if you have an abundance and don’t want to waste them, this is a solution. I’m still going to eat them!
